The disappearance.

“He remember those vanished years. As though looking through a dusty window pane. The past is something he could see, but not touch. And everything he sees is blurred and indistinct”
“That era has passed, nothing that belong to it exists anymore”. – In mood for love Wong Kar Wai
“Sumire has disappeared
Like smoke”
The Sputnik Sweetheart – Haruki Murakami. “
I was inspired by Wong Kar Wai and Haruki Murakami to make this outcome. Life is full of disappearances in many different perspectives. The past, memory and the era are some of those.
My outcome is a small wardrobe, which is a metaphor for that vanished world. When closing the small wardrobe, there is a whole world inside, that we still can see the coverage of it, but can not touch. I painted the wardrobe same color as the wall, so that it can be invisible. The hole is the only way that you can see through to that world. The world inside the mirror is the world of reflection, of darkness. That is when everything is over, and we can not change what happened.

I have been living in London for a year. London is a busy city that never sleep. The life rhythm is too intense that all we can do is work, work and work. I wish sometimes i could live slower, so that i could see my past, think, reflect and evaluate it. What happened, what was right and what was wrong. Therefore, i want my audience to have a look in the world which was gone because of the busy London.

The wardrobe is invisible to the wall. However, at midnight it will glow in the dark. I want to add another layer meaning for my outcome. That is we can forget and deny our past easily. Everything is not a one way ticket. Once it disappeared, one day it will appear in a different way, in a different time because Andy said :” Isn’t life a series of images that change as they repeat themselves?”

On the other hand, the wardrobe is a conversation of two main materials : Wood and Mirror acrylic . Wood is stiff, classic, an uneven . Mirror is new, fragile, pure and flat. These two material when put together will make a contrast. I believe the opposition of this two materials that I even made another layer for my small wardrobe. That is when the very fragile world live behind a stiff coverage.

About the function of the wardrobe, I added the mirror inside so people don’t have to move to have a look in the mirror. More over, in my survey, 80.88% said that they wont care about wardrobe/cabinet when they buy clothes… So i think it may be because the wardrobe is not beautiful enough to impress …. That is why i will try to make a beautiful version of it.
